Exploring the harsh realities of an informal settlement in Mamelodi, where lack of access to clinics, overcrowded schools, and unsafe transport put lives at risk daily. Despite government promises of poverty eradication by 2030, this community remains overlooked and unsupported.

An informal settlement stretches behind Mams Mall. It is in stark contrast to old Mamelodi (the known Mamelodi) opposite from it, where clinics and schools are more accessible

In the heart of this informal settlement, houses cling to the mountainside, raising the question of how ambulances reach those in need during an emergency.

The government mandates that residents live within a 5 km radius of essential facilities, like clinics or schools, and typically provides them. However, since this is an informal settlement, the government has not supplied these services, as the area is not officially designated for habitation.

Gusheshe's are a beloved symbol of the hustle and bustle in the hood, deeply ingrained in its vibrant culture.

Sediba Sa Thuto is one of the very few primary schools in this informal settlement. The settlement has less than five schools.
